  • Access to the OEM market. It can safely be said that ASPICE® implementation became a requirement – it allows automotive suppliers to access the OEM market. Nowadays, most automotive manufacturers would demand a SPICE automotive certification to work with them. Also, with ASPICE certification, OEMs and suppliers are required to perform fewer assessments.
  • Enhanced cost and quality control. Implementing the SPICE automotive standard also helps perform a more controlled development procedure and enhances cost and quality control.
  • Early detection of defects. The ASPICE®-aligned development process helps define faults promptly and thus reduces the budget for redoing. Also, with ASPICE certification, you will get enhanced risk management and reduction.
  • Facilitated knowledge transfer. ASPICE® places a great deal of emphasis on documentation, so its implementation will facilitate knowledge transfer and ensure the availability of documentation.

We were new to compliance and ISO 27001 implementation and had to go through the sophisticated certification process. Puzzled by the regulatory complexity, we wanted to find the best way for us to get started. Our project manager (aka security officer) had never worked with such compliance aspects and rules before. So we decided to get third-party assistance and signed up with Compliance Aspekte. Their guided approach has played a vital role for us. They had all the detailed explanations for compliance checks and risk analyses, including suggestions on how to handle it practically.

One of the features we like best about Compliance Aspekte is its streamlined compliance process. At every stage during the security management lifecycle process, recurring tasks like scoping, structural analysis, modeling, and even tracking risks and controls are supported by a variety of features, e.g. mapping controls with multiple requirements, assigning individual assets to different scopes as well as expanding requirement and control catalogs. Having Helga, the compliance assistance bot, is also a very special plus as she can explain terms and provides guidance through the application. We really love and live Compliance Aspekte!

And this is the only tool with which it is possible. It helps us to keep the data consistent and simplify audits. The Compliance Aspekte tool is better than the existing competitors on the market and at the same time cheaper.

Automotive SPICE was created in 2001 as part of the SPICE standard. It was created by a group named AUTOSIG, which is composed of the forum and the leading German automotive producers, such as BMW, Volkswagen, Daimler, and some foreign ones. Automotive SPICE was designed to evaluate an organization’s software development capability.

From a legal perspective, implementing ASPICE® is not obligatory for automotive companies. However, this certification became necessary to work with OEMs and major players in the automotive market.

In a nutshell, the standard enables a more controlled system development process to increase the quality of the final product. It provides suppliers the ability to build partnerships in the automotive industry.

The latest version of this standard is ASPICE® 4.0, which was released on November 29, 2023.

Automotive SPICE® assessment is mostly for Process Capability for VDA scope. Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Project Management, and Support are all included in VDA’s scope. A maturity assessment is also conducted based on ISO standards.

Begin by enrolling your company on the official ASPICE® platform, choosing an accredited auditing body, and conducting a self-assessment to identify areas for improvement.

ASPICE® certification is typically valid for a specific duration. Renewal timelines depend on the certification body and may require reassessment to ensure ongoing compliance.
